Enabling or Disabling NDMP
NDMP processing status can be checked at any time. NDMP can also be enabled or disabled in
mid-session or at system startup.
From the
Home
page, click
Data Protection
. Then, click
Backup Status
.
To enable or disable NDMP processing whenever the system starts, select or deselect
Enable
NDMP
at boot time checkbox.
To stop NDMP processing, click
Abort NDMP
.
If the button at the bottom of the dialog box is labeled
Start NDMP
, click it to begin NDMP
processing.
It is recommended that all NDMP transfers be terminated using the storage management
application before clicking the
Abort NDMP
button. Abort NDMP will immediately stop all NDMP
processes. This means that any tapes in use will be left in an untidy state. It may also confuse
the storage management application.
Specifying the NDMP User Name, Password, and Version
A user name and password for the primary NDMP user must be defined. Once they are set, they
are used to restrict access to NDMP facilities. The storage management application must
successfully authenticate against the configured NDMP user account information before it can
start a backup or recovery.
The NDMP user name and password set here are likely to be used for most backup, recovery
and replication purposes, as they give full access to the files on the system. However, less
trusted users can also be allowed to access a restricted set of files (and possibly devices) then an
NDMP Restricted User can be used. The SSC command
ndmp-ruser
(see the Command Line
Reference) is used to create such users. These user names could for instance be assigned to
various users to allow them to use the ADC utility to copy data within limited areas of the file
systems. The SSC command
