Running Media Patrol
Media Patrol checks the magnetic media on physical drives. When it finds the
specified number of bad blocks, it will trigger PDM.

You can schedule Media Patrol to run automatically, see
―Scheduling an Activity‖
on page 72.
To run Media Patrol:
1. In Tree View, click the Subsystem
icon.
2. From the dropdown menu on the Background Activities tab, choose
Start
Media Patrol
.
3. In the next screen, click the
Start
button.
Running PDM
Predictive Data Migration (PDM) migrates data from the suspect physical drive to
a spare disk drive, similar to Rebuilding. But unlike Rebuilding, PDM acts
before
the disk drive fails and your Logical Drive goes Critical.

To run PDM:
1. In Tree View, click the Subsystem
icon.
2. In Management View, click the
Background Activities
tab and choose
Start
Media Patrol
from the dropdown menu.
3. In the next screen, choose the Source and Target physical drives.
The suspect physical drive is the source. The replacement physical drive is
the target.
4. Click the
Start
button.
