Be aware that options may only be assigned to one Function Key at a time, and that in
order to take effect, the HHD must be reloaded.
Explanation of MULTIPLIERS
It is not always practical to read all the wheels on a register, especially if a utility does not bill
in very small increments. For example, if a utility bills for each 1000 gallons of water used,
it is not practical to read the meters all the way down to the ones place. There is no need
to keep track of every single gallon used for billing purposes. In most cases, the registers
that a utility has ordered are configured to read only to the 1000's place, for example (if
that is what the utility requested), and the billing software will assume that a reading of
0015 means that 15,000 gallons have passed through the meter. Often, the billing software
will MULTIPLY the reading that AutoRead passes to billing by the size of the units that are
assumed (i.e. 0015 x 1000 = 15,000 gallons). If the billing software passes the multiplier
information to AutoRead in the route file, AutoRead can multiply the reading that the reading
devices get from the meter, and can also change the displayed reading that the meter
readers see on the reading device. It is not necessary to change the way the reading is
displayed on the reading device, but it is possible. It may or may not be necessary to have
AutoRead multiply the reading for the billing software, but this function is provided if the
billing software cannot accomplish the multiplication on itsb own. The newest Sensus AMR
Registers can also be configured to read any (or all) wheels on the register, to eliminate the
need for a multiplier altogether. It is important to know which wheels on the registers are
reading electronically (and manually being read for older meters) and to make sure that the
billing software is aware of the units assumed.
