Internet Server

The following are the effects on system operation when this service is 

disabled:

TopAccess and TopAccessComposer are not available

„

IPP printing is not available

„

Controller can send and receive e-mail normally

„

The Internet Server in the controller cannot be used to setup an illegal 

or malicious web site or spread web-based viruses

TopAccessComposer

The following are the effects on system operation when this feature is 

enabled:

„

Port 6666 is enabled

SNMP Service

The following are the effects on system operation when this service is 

disabled:

„

This controller cannot serve SNMP client queries from software 

components such as:

„

HP Open View

„

TopAccess (Device, Counters, Administration pages, and Device 

Search results)

„

TopAccessDocMon

„

Print driver bi-directional communication

„

SNMP cannot be used to hack in or modify the controller content

„

SNMP traps do not work

Enabling version 1 of the SNMP service does not change the function of 

this service from previous versions of the controller software. Enabling 

version 3 increases the security of the system. However, it also requires 

you to create one or more ID files (see 

Configuring SNMP Services

 on 

page 133) to allow users the appropriate type of access to the system. 

Read access allows users to send documents to the controller for printing 

and other typical functions. Write access is required for 

TopAccessDocMon and certain other functions.
