Install a Storage Drive

If you are replacing the drive, continue to

“Install a Storage Drive” on page 127

■

If you are not replacing the drive, install a filler panel. Install a filler panel in the empty

drive slot to maintain proper airflow. Perform administrative tasks to configure the server to

operate without the drive.
For information on how to install a storage drive filler panel, see

Install a Storage Drive

For storage drive information, see

“Storage Drive Locations and Numbering” on page 124

Prepare the server for service. Choose one of the following methods:

■

Prepare the server for hot service.

■

Prepare the server for cold service.

See

“Preparing the Server for Component Replacement” on page 101

If necessary, remove the HDD filler panel from the slot.

Access this component directly from the back of the server.

Press the handle release button on the front of the filler panel.

The spring-loaded handle pops open.

To remove the filler panel, use the handle to pull it out of the slot.

Ensure that the drive handle is open.
