Serial Interfaces

The XC886/888 contains three serial interfaces, which consists of two Universal
Asynchronous Receivers/Transmitters (UART and UART1) and a High-Speed
Synchronous Serial Interface (SSC), for serial communication with external devices.
Additionally, the UART module can be used to support the Local Interconnect Network
(LIN) protocol.

UART and UART1 Features

– 8-bit or 9-bit data frames, LSB first
– fixed or variable baud rate

Multiprocessor communication

Interrupt generation on the completion of a data transmission or reception

– Programmable number of data bits: 2 to 8 bits
– Programmable shift direction: LSB or MSB shift first
– Programmable clock polarity: idle low or high state for the shift clock
– Programmable clock/data phase: data shift with leading or trailing edge of the shift
