Access via messages
In addition, other types of messages (communication objects), which are sent either by the EMCA or
the higher-level controller, are defined for special application cases:
Communication objects (COB)
NMT
Network management
Network service that can influence an individually tar
geted CAN-bus node or all CAN-bus nodes simultaneously.
SYNC
Synchronization object
Synchronisation of output and input of data in the CAN-
bus nodes.
EMCY
Emergency Message
Transmission of error messages from the CAN-bus node to
the master.
PDO
Process data object
The FHPP data are transferred in the PDOs

Mapping is automatically determined in parameterisation
with FCT

Service data object
Parallel to the FHPP I/O data, parameters can be trans
ferred via SDOs corresponding to CiA 402.

Communication objects (COB)
To the communication objects are assigned unique CAN identifiers (CAN-ID), from which can be seen
the CAN-bus participant to which the message is directed the CAN-bus participant from which the mes
sage was sent. The CAN identifier (CAN-ID) consists of the node number “Node-ID” (7 bit) and the func
tion code (4 bit) together. The lower the CAN identifier (CAN-ID), the higher the priority of the message.
The figure shows the basic design of a CANopen message:
