PROFINET communication
The EMCA can be incorporated as a PROFINET-IO device in the communication of bus protocol
“PROFINET IO”. PROFINET IO was created for synchronous communication (RT = Real-Time) and cycle-
synchronous communication IRT (IRT= Isochronous Real-Time) between a controller and its remote
peripherals.
6.3.1
Conformance classes CC
PROFINET IO is a powerful communication system. Since the complete functional scope is not required
in every automation system, PROFINET IO is cascadable in terms of supported functionality. This is why
the user organization has divided the functional scope of PROFINET into “conformance classes”. The
aim is to simplify the application of PROFINET IO and to provide the system operator with a helpful and
simple choice of field devices and bus components with clearly defined minimum properties.
The minimum requirements were defined for 3 conformance classes (CC-A, CC-B, CC-C).
In Class A, the devices are produced in accordance with the PROFINET standard. Class B stipulates that
the network infrastructure must also be produced in accordance with the guidelines of PROFINET IO.
With Class C, cycle-synchronous applications are possible.
6.3.2
Real-time classes RTC
In order better to scale the communication options and therefore the determinism on PROFINET IO,
real-time classes RTC (RT_CLASS) were defined for data interchange.
