Managing the Shelf ID

This section describes the procedures for configuring the ID number for shelves 
using a LCD display or a 7-segment display. The following subsections are cov-
ered:

Usage Guidelines

The FSP 3000R7 system may consist of one or more shelves. Each shelf in a 
NE must have a unique ID number. Shelf ID numbers are used to identify spe-
cific shelves in a rack numerically and sequentially. You can specify the shelf ID 
number through the arrow and enter buttons on the front panel during initial con-
figuration of the shelf.

•

The shelf ID must be set prior to provisioning the shelf.

•

Each shelf ID must be assigned only once per NE. 

•

The shelf holding the NCU always has to have ID 1 or 01 and cannot be 
changed per definition (master shelf). 

•

The shelf cabling identifies successive shelves, e.g. SCU “D” port of shelf 1 
is connected to SCU “U” port of shelf 2. Then shelf 2 is assigned ID 2 or 02. 
SCU “D” port of shelf 2 is connected to SCU “U” port of shelf 3. Then shelf 3 
is set as ID 3 or 03, and so on. 

•

If you entered an incorrect shelf ID, you must unlock the wrong ID number 
before you can correct it (Rel 9.3 or higher).

•

A valid shelf ID is 1 or 01 for the master shelf and from 2 or 02 through 20 for 
any other main shelf.

•

If you entered an incorrect shelf ID and provisioned the shelf afterwards, 
then you have to set the shelf to management status in order to change the 
ID number.

•

If you entered an incorrect shelf ID, and you are not able to correct it, you 
must hold the enter button in for a long time to do this.

Note

 The ID number of the master shelf must never be changed!

Note

When the shelf has already been provisioned you must not change a 
shelf ID. If you have to change a main shelf ID later, you will have to 
provision this shelf again.
