SCU-S Ports
The SCU-S contains two Ethernet interfaces located on the front panel.
shows the SCU-S and describes the usage of the ports.

For interconnecting 1HU shelves equipped with SCU-S modules standard
Ethernet crossover cables or straight-through cables (Cat 5e) are required. The
Ethernet cables are not delivered by ADVA Optical Networking along with the
equipment. If you have to build your own Ethernet crossover cables, follow the
appropriate wiring diagram in Chapter 2,
of this guide.
Interconnecting 7HU Shelves and 1HU Shelves using
SCU Modules
This subsection first discuses the daisy-chaining of 7HU Shelves or
1HU Shelves using SCU modules, and then describes the procedure that must
be followed in order to interconnect the SCU modules in a ring configuration. In
the following, the term shelf refers to both 7HU Shelf and 1HU Shelf.
In order to establish communications between multiple shelves of a network ele-
ment, the SCUs are connected in sequence, SCU of the master shelf 01 to the
SCU of the main shelf 02, SCU of the main shelf 02 to the SCU of the main shelf
03, SCU of the main shelf 03 to the SCU of the main shelf 04, etc. The master
shelf with an SCU and not more than 19 main shelves equipped with one SCU
each can be daisy chained to build one network element (maximum system con-
figuration).
