Specialized Knowledge Required
Specialized Knowledge is not required for interconnecting shelves.
Personal Safety and Equipment Precautions
The following cautions are given to prevent bodily injury and equipment dam-
age.
Personal Safety
The following information apply to personal safety.
CAUTION
Risk of bodily injury:
(1) Only Service Personnel are allowed to interconnect Shelf Control
Units (SCUs).
(2) Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures
other than those specified in this manual may result in hazardous
radiation exposure.
CAUTION
Risk of eye injury:
(1) Do not power up the SCU without connecting the laser to the
optical patch cable and putting the cover in position, as laser outputs
emit infrared laser light at this point.
(2) Invisible laser radiation may be emitted from disconnected or
broken patch cables. Never look into the end of an optical patch cable
or view directly with optical instruments.
(3) Disconnect fiber optic cables at both ends before viewing with
optical instruments.
(4) Associated optical test sets emit invisible infrared lightwave into
optical fibers.
CAUTION
The pluggable transceivers used for the management ports of the
SCU meet the specifications for a Class 1 laser product.
CAUTION
Use only pluggable transceivers of the type SFP/HS/850I/MM/LC.
These must be approved by ADVA Optical Networking. The use of
pluggable transceivers other than those approved by ADVA AG
Optical Networking will result in loss of safety approval for the FSP
3000R7.
