Connecting a NCU to an OSCM
This section describes how to connect a NCU to an OSCM-V#1630,
2OSCM-V#1630 and OSCM-PN (in the following refered to as OSCM) using an
Ethernet cable.
Please be aware that there must not exist a backplane interconnection between
the OSCM and the NCU if you want use the Ethernet cable connection method
for a single OSC module.
Safety Guidelines
It is assumed that you are familiar with Ethernet and LAN, and are aware of the
precautions that should be taken to avoid damage to the equipment.
Equipment Required
Before starting the procedure, ensure the following equipment is available:
•
Cat 5e Ethernet straight-through cable of the proper length with male RJ45
plugs on both ends
•
ESD-preventive wrist strap or other personal grounding device
The procedure described below applies to all NCU and OSCM module types.
To connect a NCU to an OSCM using the front cable connection, follow these
steps:
CAUTION
Only Service Personnel or suitably qualified personnel are allowed to
connect Ethernet cables.
WARNING
Do not connect or disconnect the Ethernet cable during periods of
lightning activity.
Risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD).
