Figure 82: Interconnecting 1HU Shelves Using SCU-S Modules
The SCU-S ring provides high speed redundant interconnection. The manage-
ment links are 10/100Base-TX Standard Ethernet using shielded Cat 5e cables.
If the ring is broken at one point, each shelf of the NE can still be reached by the
NCU. The SCU-S module involved will detect the broken link and where neces-
sary, allow the NCU to reach the shelf via another management path.
Use the procedure described below to install the Ethernet cables. Pay attention
to the safety notices and additional information that are given in
Safety and Equipment Precautions” on p. 265
It is assumed that you are familiar with Ethernet and LAN, and are aware of the
precautions that should be taken to avoid damage to the equipment. Shelves
should be connected in shelf order from the Master.
Equipment Required
To interconnect SCU-S modules to each other in ring configuration you need the
following:
•
Two 100BASE-TX Ethernet cables of the proper lengths with RJ-45 connec-
tors on both ends (Cat 5e)
•
ESD-preventive wrist strap or other personal grounding device
This equipment should be present on site before beginning the interconnecting
procedure.
To interconnect two SCU-S modules, perform the following steps in the given
order.

Note
The RJ45 plug will fit into the Ethernet ports (RJ45 receptacles) only
one way. It will click into place when properly inserted.
Ensure the release tab of the plug is pressed before pulling the plug
out.
