Equipment Required
Be sure solely to use the IEEE 1394 interface cable (IC300/PSCU/IEEE1394)
supplied with the 40CSM/2HU Shelf. This interface cable is 3 meters (9.84 feet)
long and has a 6-pin male IEEE-1394 connector plug on each end as shown in
Figure 84:
EEE-1394 Connector Plug of the IEEE 1394 Interface Cable
There is only one way to fit the IEEE-1394 connector plugs into the interconnect
ports of any 40CSM/2HU Shelf and the PSCU or CEM/9HU.
The interconnect ports on the PSCU are labeled I1 to I8. The interconnect ports
on the CEM/9HU are labeled I1 to I4.
Follow these steps to connect the IEEE 1394 interface cable:
Procedure
Step 1
Read the installation or the cabling plan, or contact the system admin-
istrator to get information about:
•
the 40CSM/2HU Shelf that is to be connected
•
the shelf that holds the PSCU or the CEM/9HU
•
the rack, that holds these shelves
•
the position of these shelves within the rack
•
the IP address of the network element
Step 2
Connect one end of the EEE 1394 interface cable to a free intercon-
nect port on the PSCU or CEM/9HU. Don't force the plug. Flip it over if
it is not going in.
Step 3
Pass the EEE 1394 interface cable through the space between two
fiber fingers and bend it about 90 degrees to the left or right in the
fiber tray (depending on which side of the rack the interface cable is to

The use of cables other than those delivered by ADVA Optical
Networking will void the warranty and the EMC certificate.

Note
Although the PSCU, CEM/9HU and 40CSM/2HU Shelf use a
FireWire 400 cable for interconnecting, the FireWire itself is not
supported (neither the protocol nor pinout).
