Configuration 6-19
Enable Menus
Use Enable menus to enable (Yes) or disable (No) each interface.
The LocalTalk, RS232, and Parallel interfaces are enabled as factory
defaults. If the Ethernet upgrade is factory installed, the EtherTalk
and LPR interfaces are enabled as the factory defaults. The Novell
Print Server interface is disabled as the factory default.
Mode Menus
Use Mode menus to select the printer mode for files sent across each
interface. The RS232 and Parallel Mode menus allow you to select
from the following options:
• PostScript Standard (PS STD)
• PostScript Binary (PS BIN)
• PostScript Tagged Binary Communication Protocol (PS TBCP).
The LocalTalk, EtherTalk, LPR, and Novell Print Server are set for
the PostScript Standard (PS STD) printer mode. PS STD is the
factory default for all interfaces except parallel, which is set to PS
TBCP.
Spool Menus
Use Spool menus to enable (YES) or disable (NO) the spooling
feature on each interface. Spool menus only appear if an optional
IDE disk is installed. The factory default is No for all interfaces. See
“Spooler” in chapter 3 (Macintosh) or 4 (PC) for spooling details.
RS232 Configuration
When using the RS232 port, you must configure the printer and PC to use
the same baud rate, parity, flow control, data bit, and stop bit settings.
Baud rate is the rate at which serial data is sent between the
computer and printer. The Baud Rate menu allows you to select rates
of 1200, 9600 (the factory default), and 19200.
Parity is used to check for transmission errors by comparing the
group of data bits sent to the group received. A loss of data during
transmission usually results in a change to the group size. Parity
options are None (the factory default), Even, Odd, Mark, and Space.
