Measure
Windows does not
start up.
If the power indicator
is lit, confirm that the computer does not access to
the hard disk, and then slide the power switch for four seconds or longer to
turn off. Then turn on again.
When turning on the power the first time after purchase
The “The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.”
message may be displayed instead of the Windows setup screen. This message
is displayed if the computer was forcibly turned off before the Windows setup
started (the AC adaptor was disconnected, or the battery ran out while you
perform the setup with the AC adaptor disconnected), and Windows cannot be
used until Windows is reinstalled. If this happens, reinstall Windows.
If Windows does not start up when resuming from hibernation
Use the Recovery Disc to start [System Recovery Options] and execute [Startup
Repair] (
page 80).
If Windows still does not start up, use the Recovery Disc to reinstall Windows.
Press
in the Setup Utility to return the Setup Utility settings to the
default values.

Remove all peripheral devices (e.g. USB memory).
Using the following procedure, start up in Safe Mode, and check the error
details.

Depending on the processing status on Windows, sound may be interrupted
at Windows startup. You can mute the sound at startup.

Right-click the desktop and click [Personalize].

Click [Sounds] and remove the check mark from [Play Windows Startup
sound], and click [OK].
To switch between
Windows 7 (64-bit)
and Windows 7
(32-bit).
The following methods are available to switch between Windows 7 (64-bit)
and Windows 7 (32-bit) (for example, to install Windows 7 (32-bit) on a hard
disk on which Windows 7 (64-bit) is installed).
Reinstall Windows by using the data in the HDD recovery partition on the hard
•
disk.
Reinstall Windows by using a Recovery Disc with the same OS as the OS you
•
want to install.
If you do not have a Recovery Disc with the same OS, reinstall Windows by
•
using a Recovery Disc with a different OS, and then reinstall Windows by using
the data in the HDD recovery partition.
“Remove disks or

or a similar message
appears.
A floppy disk is in the floppy disk drive and it does not contain system
startup information.
Remove the floppy disk and press any key.
Remove the USB device or set [Legacy USB Support] to [Disabled] in the
[Advanced] menu of the Setup Utility.

Perform the reinstallation and return the hard disk to its condition at the time of
