The Workstation Installation/Operation Manual Version 2 Document 51540 Rev. B1 4/8/02
The
Sentence Structure
display box holds the actual annunciation sentence structure. Each row in the display
represents one item in the structure. When an off-normal event occurs, the sentence structure is processed in a top
to bottom order. Each item can be of one of the following types:
•
#File#
- This item represents a fixed wave file. When this item is selected, the Available files area
becomes active and its options are used to configure the #file# line. Once a file is selected, #file# is
replaced by the name of the file within the two # signs (i.e. #wavefile.wav#).
•
%a/an%
- This item looks ahead to the next word in the structure and determine if "a" or "an" is appro-
priate. It will then automatically speak the proper letter.
•
%Description%
- This item speaks the linked wave file description provided by the device in question.
If the string does not have an assigned wave file, the software will skip this entry. (For more info on linked
wave files, see Section 2.4.5).
•
%DeviceID%
- This item reads the DeviceID for the specified device. This ID is spelled out with
alphabet soundings.
•
%Site%
- This will spell out the Site ID.
•
%Status%
- This announces the status of the device in question. The appropriate wave file is selected
by table lookup based on the device status.
These items are strung together to form a sentence structure used to annunciate any off-normal event. An example
of a sentence structure is as follows:
%a/an% %Status% #fixed.wav# %site% #fixed2.wav# %deviceID% %Description%
Where #fixed.wav# is the prerecorded phrase "event has occurred at" and #fixed2.wav# is "on device". An
example of a sentence created with this structure could include:
An alarm event has occurred at Local01 on device 037, Fire Panel 37
or
A trouble event has occurred at Remote03 on device 037
Using Prerecorded WAV Files
When an item of the type #File# is used on a line, selecting it with the mouse activates the
Voice File
box.
Clicking on the
Available Files
pulldown will display all available files. Selecting a sound file links it to the
#file# entry and it will play whenever the engine comes to that entry, (now listed as #
wavefile.wav
#, where
wavefile.wav
is the actual selected file name).
Clicking on
Listen
will play the currently selected file through the sound output device.
Clicking on
Edit File
will call up Windows Sound Recorder with the currently selected file automatically loaded.
Editing can now be performed and effects applied. Saving and Exiting will automatically return control back to the
workstation software and the new version of the file will be used.
Selecting
New File
calls up a dialog to enter the name of the new file, and then loads Windows Sound Recorder
with the new file loaded. From here it is possible to record to the new file, save the file, and use it within the
sentence structure.
