3.2.2 Saved Configuration
The unit has a non-volatile store that holds a complete set of configuration data. It is
important to note that this is separate from the 'running' configuration (the settings
reflecting the current operation of the unit). When the 'save settings' option is
selected (see section 14.5.5), the running configuration values are copied to the
saved configuration, replacing all the data that was previously stored there. When
the unit performs a warm start (see above), the stored settings are used to configure
the unit (i.e. the stored configuration is copied to the running configuration).
3.2.3 Configuration Files
A complete set of unit configuration data can be translated to or from a format that
may be stored and transferred as a printable text file. This is referred to as a
configuration or settings file.
The unit supports a simple (volatile) internal file system that allows the storage of just
one configuration file. This file may be created from the running configuration or
uploaded to the unit (via TFTP, SFTP, HTTP or serial transfer over the terminal
interface). Conversely, it may be used to set the running configuration or
downloaded to an external device.
Section 14.5.3 contains a more detailed description of the configuration file functions.
Note: Whilst configuration files are in printable text format, they are not intended to
be edited by hand. To generate a file with a desired configuration, the settings
should be entered onto a unit and a file downloaded and saved. This file can then be
used to upload to other units, if desired.
