TWAMP OPERATION
The diagram below shows a network configuration with a single generator using
TWAMP to monitor the connection to three remote peer devices.
In this application, the TWAMP Generator will send a test PDU to each remote peer
at a rate of 1 packet per second to measure the round-trip latency, one-way jitter and
the synthetic packet loss associated with the route to the peer.
The unit will collect the performance statistics for each TWAMP session and
maintain a collection of 96
, 15 minute ‘buckets’ giving 24-hour’s worth of data, after
which point it will maintain using 30, 24-hour buckets to allow for long term
monitoring.
SLA MONITORING
When a TWAMP peer is configured on the unit, an SLA may be assigned allowing
the performance data collected to be compared to the required SLA.
The SLA is defined independently for each TWAMP peer and includes the following
SLA metrics
FLR Frame Loss Ratio
FTD Frame Transfer Delay
IFDV Interframe Delay Variation.
The unit will monitor the collected performance statistics and compare them to the
required SLA and if the SLA is violated, an alarm is generated and SNMP trap may
be sent.
