17-4 Accelerator and brake pedals
(T217161-026-0E)
(1) Accelerator pedal
This pedal controls the engine speed and therefore the speed of the
machine in motion.
Sudden acceleration while driving is dangerous. Always work the
accelerator smoothly and steadily.
Before operating the accelerator pedal, confirm that the needle of the engine water temperature
gauge is above point "C".
Operating the accelerator pedal while the engine coolant temperature is low could cause a
seizure, fast wear, damage etc. due to poor lubrication (
from high oil viscosity
) of the engine and
torque converter.
Properly perform warm-up running.

(2) Brake pedal
This is the foot brake for use while the machine is in motion.
The disk brakes on the front and rear wheels act when the pedal is pressed in proportion to the amount of pedal
depression.
When driving down a long slope, use the engine brake and axiliary brake to avoid overusing the
foot brake.
(T218151-102-0E)
If the air pressure in the foot brake circuit falls below the rated pressure (
500
-
900kPa
(5
-
9kgf/cm
2
))
, the available braking force will be inadequate. Use the air pressure gauge on the
cluster meter panel to check the compressed air pressure while driving.
If air pressure in the foot brake circuit falls below 500kPa
(
5kgf/cm
2
)
, the "low air pressure
warning lamp" on the cluster meter panel will light and an intermittent buzzer will sound to alert
the driver to the danger of brake failure. Stop the machine and raise the air pressure to within the
rated range before driving on.
