14. Clearance sonar system
14. Clearance sonar system
(T218301-010-0E)
14-1 Description
(T218351-051-0E)
T
he clearance sonar system uses ultrasonic obstacle sensors to detect obstacles in areas around the crane and emits a
corresponding alarm to reduce accidents involving contact or collisions with obstacles. The sensors are installed in four
locations (left-front, left-front wheel, rear, and left-rear corner areas).
14-2 Precautions (Be sure to read this section.)
(T218301-012-0E)
Be sure to thoroughly understand the following precautions before using the machine.
Ignoring the following precautions could result in machine damage or an accident due to an
alarm failure.
(T218351-052-0E)
Be sure to observe the following before using the clearance sonar system.
Ignoring the following precautions could result in unforeseen accidents.
・
The clearance sonar system is a supplemental system that indicates the approximate distance
to vehicles or other obstacles around the machine and emits a corresponding alarm sound. Be
sure to visually confirm the safety around the machine before moving it forward or backward.
・
There are limits to the detection range and reaction speed of the clearance sonar system.
Therefore, be sure to visually confirm the safety around the machine before moving it forward
or backward.
・
The obstacle detection range could be shorter or obstacles not detectable, depending to the
obstacle type, obstacle shape, or surrounding conditions. Therefore, be sure to visually confirm
safety in the surrounding area before operating the machine.
・
Do not exceed a driving speed of about 10 km/h.
・
Do not install accessories or other parts within the detection range of the obstacle sensors.
・
The clearance sonar system is a supplemental system that indicates the approximate distance
to vehicles or other obstacles around the machine and emits a corresponding alarm sound. The
system does not include functionality for automatically stopping the machine.
(T218351-071-0E)
The clearance sonar system may not be able to detect the following types of obstacles. Operate
the machine especially carefully near such obstacles.
・
Wire, fencing, rope, and other narrow items.
・
Cotton, snow, foam/sponge, or other materials that tend to absorb sound waves.
・
Small trees, poles, bicycles, and other narrow items.
・
Items that are short or have a low height.
・
Tall items with a projection or protruding area toward the top.
Even people are sometimes not detectable, depending on what they are wearing. Therefore, be
sure to visually check for people.
