Measure
• Rod bearing clearance, refer to “ Main and
Rod Bearings” in this section for measurement
procedure.
• If the readings are within limits, select a
suitable set of inserts. If the readings are
unsatisfactory and available inserts will not
correct the clearance, the crankshaft must be
replaced.
8. Lubricate bearing surfaces and crankshaft journal
surfaces with Engine Oil Supplement GM
P/N 1052367 or equivalent.
NOTICE:
Refer to “ Notice” on page 6A2-1.
9. Bearing cap.
Important
Carefully tap the bearing cap into place. Do
not pull the cap into place with the cap bolts or
nuts.
• Bearing cap nuts to 52 N*m (38 lbs. ft.).
• Loosen cap nuts one full turn and tighten to
specification, refer to “ Specifications” in this
section.
Inspect

Pry the connecting rod back and forth with a
suitable tool and check for binding. If
necessary, loosen and re-tighten the bearing
cap.
Measure
• Connecting rod side clearance, refer to
Figure 52 and “ Engine Specifications” in this
section.

2. Oil pump drive bolt.

• Bolt to 25 N-m (18 lbs. ft.).

RTV sealer or equivalent, on the oil pan to block
side sealing flanges.
2. Apply GM P/N
1052914 RTV sealer or
equivalent to oil pan surface which fits to engine
front cover.
