PURGING
THE
SYSTEM OR REMOVING THE COMPRESSOR FROM
THE VEHICLE.
Two types o f drive system s are used on the C om pressor:
V-groove type and poly-groove type. The drive system affects
only m inor repair procedures and is so noted where required.
M ajor repair procedures are not affected by the type o f drive
system .

PR O C E D U R E S because the refrigerant system m ust be
reclaim ed, evacuated and recharged to com plete service.
Illustrations used in describing these operations show the
com pressor rem oved from the vehicle only to m ore clearly
illustrate the various operations.
W hen servicing the com pressor, rem ove only the
necessary com ponents that prelim inary diagnosis indicates are
in need o f service. Refer to F igure 2 for inform ation relative to
parts nom enclature and location.
Removal and installation o f external com pressor
com ponents must be perform ed on a clean w orkbench. The
work area, tools and parts m ust be kept clean at all tim es.

Remove or Disconnect
If com pressor is on the vehicle, loosen com pressor
m ounting brackets, disconnect the com pressor drive belt
and reposition the com pressor for access, if necessary.
If com pressor has been rem oved from the vehicle, attach
the com pressor to H olding Fixture J 2 5 0 0 8 -A and clam p
the Holding Fixture in a vise (Fig. 4).
