I f the pulley rim m ounting screw s w ere rem oved in Step
2, only the C lutch R otor and B earing assem bly will be
rem oved for replacem ent. The C lutch Coil and H ousing
assem bly is pressed onto the Front H ead o f the
com pressor w ith a press fit and will not be rem oved
unless the puljey rim m ounting screws are left securely
in place and the pulley rim pulls the Coil and H ousing
assem bly o ff with the total C lutch R otor and P ulley Rim
Assembly.

Place the R otor and Bearing assem bly on blocks as
show n in F igure 10. D rive the bearing out o f the rotor hub
w ith R otor B earing R em over J 939 8 -A .

It is not necessary to rem ove the staking at the rear o f the
ro to r hub to rem ove the bearing. H ow ever, it will be necessary
to file aw ay the old stake m etal for proper clearance for the new
b earing to be installed into the rotor bore, or the bearing m ay be
dam aged (Fig. 11).
Install or Connect
Place the R otor and Hub assem bly face dow n on a clean,
flat and firm surface.

A lign the new bearing squarely with the hub bore and
using Pulley and B earing Installer J 9 4 8 1-A w ith
U niversal H andle J 29886, drive the bearing fully into
the hub (Fig. 12). The Installer will apply force to the
outer race o f the bearing if used as shown.

Using a center punch w ith a 4 5° angle point, stake
1 .1 -1 ,4mm (.0 4 5 - 0 5 5 " deep) the bearing in three
places 120° apart as show n in F igure 11, but do not stake
too deeply to avoid distorting the outer race o f the
bearing.

Replace rotor and bearing assem bly.
On-Vehicle
A.
Position the Rotor and Bearing assem bly on the
front head.
B.
With Rotor & Bearing Installer J 2 6 2 7 1-A
(without driver handle) in position and Rotor and
Bearing assem bly aligned with the Front H ead as
shown in F igure 13, drive the assem bly part w ay
onto the head.
C.
Plug clutch coil connector onto C lutch Coil.
D.
Position the Clutch Coil so the three (3) locating
tabs will align w ith the holes in the head and
continue to drive the R otor and B earing assem bly
onto the front head.
E.
Install the retainer ring (Fig. 8).
F.
Reassem ble the C lutch Plate and H ub with the
shaft key onto the shaft with Installer J 9 4 0 1-B
until 0 .5-7.6m m (0 .0 2 -.0 3 0 " ) air gap is obtained.
G.
Install shaft lock nut. Torque to 14 N*m
(lO lb .ft.).
