5.5.2 Wear detection
The “Wear detection” secondary function is only available for immersed screw spin-
dle pumps of a suitable design size. You can obtain information regarding which
design sizes are suitable from the pump controller manufacturer.
Wear detection is used to determine the wear condition of immersed screw spindle
pumps and to forecast the development of the wear condition over a pre-
determined forecast period.
To do this, wear detection measures how quickly the screw spindle pump must
rotate in order to convey medium at a pre-set pressure. Wear detection compares
the measurement result with the results of previous wear measurements and de-
termines whether the pump performance has changed since the last wear meas-
urement.
In this way, wear detection can calculate the number of operating hours for which
the screw spindle pump can remain in use with the same operating conditions be-
fore it becomes damaged by wear.
To do this, wear detection must cyclically perform a regular wear measurement
depending on the operating condition of the screw spindle pump. The more de-
manding the operating conditions, the more frequently measurements have to be
made.

Setting wear detection parameters
All user groups can check that the wear detection parameters are correct. The fol-
lowing user groups can also set the forecast period.
