Target Value Entry Description
Target regions in the Flow-Set (*_STAND) protocol are created by the Application Definition Wizard
using the target channels entered by the user. The width of the Target Region is based on default
values identified in the
Default AutoSetup Protocols and Panels .
For linear FS and SS parameters, the target region width limits are +/- the entered Target Channel
in the Application Definition Wizard. For example, an FS target of 50 will generate a region between
30 and 70. The Target Channel values entered for the log fluorescence however, will not be stored in
the *_STAND protocol exactly as entered into the Application Definition Wizard except where the
value entered exactly matches a channel value. The change in Target Channel value is due to the
rounding effect on log scale data. For example, consider the third decade marker.

This equates to the log value of 102.4 - on the 0.1024 to 1024 scale of the axis.

The next channel down has a value of 101.5 and the next channel up 103.3
•
Region positions are stored on a 0-1023 linear scale with integer values so:

101.5 is stored as 767
—
102.4 is stored as 768
—
103.3 is stored as 769

If you enter a value of 102, this is outside the range of the 767 channel and is stored as 768 and
is therefore shifted to the 102.4 value.

If you enter a value of 103, this is outside the range of the 768 channel and is stored as 769 and
is therefore shifted to the 103.3 value.
Consequently, values on log scales will not be stored exactly as entered except where the value
entered exactly matches a channel value.
