IP extension details area
1. Set the
Location

External
.
2. Select the
Time Zone
of the phone.
3. Enter the
Phone MAC address
of the base associated with the handset. The MAC address is a
12-digit alphanumeric string located on the box and under the base. Note that an external
IP extension cannot share a base with internal IP extensions.
4. Select the
Handset ID
for the extension. Use the handset name on the handset screen, as
shown on page 93.

6. After configuring the extensions, choose
File > Save
. The TalkSwitch system will create a
file used to configure each handset.
Configuring the system for external IP extensions
If you are setting up an external IP extension:
1. Ensure your TalkSwitch system is connected to a network. See
Connecting to a network on
page 218
.
2. Ensure that you have set up a public IP address for the TalkSwitch system. See
Public IP
address
on page 35Public IP address.
3. Ensure the router is configured at the TalkSwitch location. There should be no need to make
any adjustments to the firewall at the remote location. See
Router port forwarding

36.
4. All VoIP lines are shared by default. You can also reserve VoIP lines for external IP
extensions. See
Reserving VoIP lines
on page 53.
5. External IP extensions will use the preferred codec selected for the TalkSwitch profile. The
default preferred codec is G.729. You can select a different preferred codec for the
TalkSwitch profile. See
Setting codec options
on page 56.
