Upgrading Your Workstation 9-15
Configuration of RAID System using Onboard RAID Controller (SATA)
The workstation is equipped an Onboard RAID Controller on its mother board to configure a RAID
system.
At least two hard disk drives are required to configure the RAID system. Use the "LSI Software
RAID Configuration Utility" installed in Onboard RAID Controller to configure the RAID system.
IMPORTANT:
Use two hard disk drives of the same capacity and
revolution.
The Onboard RAID Controller supports RAID0 (striping) and RAID1 (mirroring).
RAID0
In RAID0, data to be recorded is distributed to hard disk drives. The mode is called "striping".
In the figure below, data is recorded in stripe 1 (hard disk drive 1), stripe 2 (hard disk drive 2), and
stripe 3 (hard disk drive 3)… in the order. Because RAID0 allows all hard disk drives to be accessed
collectively, it can provide the best disk access performance.
IMPORTANT:
RAID0 does not have data redundancy. When a hard
disk drive failure occurs, data cannot be restored.
