Configuring Motherboard Jumpers
Warning
Only a qualified technical person should perform the proce-
dures in this section.
Caution
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage the system board.
Modify the system board only at an ESD workstation.
Otherwise, wear an antistatic wrist strap attached to chassis
ground.
The system board jumpers enable you to set specific operating parameters for your
system. A jumper is a small plastic-encased conductor (shorting plug) that slips over
two jumper pins.
“Figure 3 - 1: CMOS and Password Jumpers” on page 3-28 shows the location of
system board jumpers and the factory default settings for the password/CMOS
configuration jumper.
With the SETUP utility, you can set desired passwords to protect the data stored in the
server against access from unauthorized users. When you forget the passwords,
however, you may want clear them. The following describes how to clear these
passwords. You can also use the following procedure to clear the CMOS data in the
server.
Caution
Clearing the CMOS data resumes the factory-set configuration
data.
To clear passwords or the CMOS data, use the jumpers on the motherboard of the
server. The following figure illustrates the jumpers location.
Caution
Do not change any other jumper settings. Any change may
cause the server to fail or malfunction.
