Equipment Log
Use the equipment log form located at the end of this manual to record the model and
serial number of your system, all installed options, and any other pertinent information
specific to your system. You will need this information when configuring your system.
Tools Recommended for Upgrading Your
System
Depending on the upgrade, you will need one or more of the following tools:
■
Phillips screwdriver (#1 bit and #2 bit)
■
Flat-head screwdriver
■
Small needle nose pliers
■
Pen or pencil
■
ESD workstation or antistatic wrist strap (recommended)
Preparing Your System for Upgrade
To prepare your system for installation or removal of system components perform the
following procedure:
1.
Observe the safety and ESD precautions listed under
General Information
and
Static Precautions
at the beginning of this chapter.
2.
Shutdown the operating system (OS).
3.
If necessary, press the power on/off switch on the front panel of the server (see
“Powering On Your System” on page 2-21
). The power-on LED goes out.
4.
Power off the peripheral devices.
5.
Unplug the system power cord(s) from the AC wall outlet(s).
Note:
If the system power cord is connected to a power
control unit such as an UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply),
refer to the UPS user's guide for proper power-off procedures.
6.
Unplug all the I/O cables connected to the rear panel of your system.
