Replacing the Battery
All motherboards use a battery to maintain system configuration information. If it fails
to maintain system configuration, replace it with an identical rated battery from the
same manufacturer.
Remove the battery from the motherboard as follows:
Caution
Removing the battery from the motherboard causes the com-
puter to lose system configuration information. Before removing
it, run Setup and record the system configuration settings.
Use this information to restore the system after replacing the
battery.
1.
Turn off and unplug the system unit and any external options connected to the
system.

Remove the cover. See
“Removing or Installing the Side Cover” on page 4-4

Locate the battery on the motherboard. See
“Motherboard” on page 1-14
4.
Use your finger to carefully remove the battery from the battery socket on the
motherboard.
Warning
The battery may explode if it is incorrectly replaced or improp-
erly discarded.
Use only an identical rated battery from the same manufacturer.
5.
With the positive (+) side facing the plus (+) sign on the socket, press the new
battery into the socket.
6.
Replace the system unit cover.
7.
Connect external peripherals and power cables.
8.
Run Setup to reconfigure system parameters.
