Viewing machine comments
The Microsoft Server Manager utility supplied with Windows NT Server lets
you associate a descriptive comment with a computer account. Some
organizations use this comment for identifying the owner of the machine with
the asset or inventory number as the computer name, making it difficult to
identify machines within the Management Console.
In the Management Console’s main menu, click
View
, and then select
Machine Comments
.
The comments now appear in both the network view and the anti-virus
domain view, after the machine name and enclosed in square brackets. To turn
off the display, repeat the step.
Adding names for Windows 3.1 machines
Windows 3.1 names generated by the Name Provider must be unique
throughout your network. Thus, the names generated might not clearly
describe the owner or usage of the machine.
The Management Console lets you enter comments for individual machines.
These comments are then stored in the Name Provider’s database.
Follow these steps to add a name to a Windows 3.1 machine:
1. Expand the
Name Provider object in the network view. Locate the
required machine, right-click it, and choose
Edit Comments
.
2. In the dialog box that appears, enter your comment, and then click
OK
.
