Discovering machines
The Management Console’s network view is only a logical display of the
network domain model. It is not necessarily organized according to location.
It can display machines in different countries, towns, or buildings. In one
anti-virus domain, you can have machines from one or many network
domains.
The right-click command
Discover
provides anti-virus domain information
that is not displayed in the Management Console’s network view.
Discover
checks the operating system on individual machines in the network
domain. It looks for the Management Agent on the machine and determines in
which anti-virus domain the machine is being managed. It therefore checks
whether the machine is managed by another copy of the Management
Console.
If you want to add a machine to an anti-virus domain,
Discover
also checks
whether you have the relevant rights. You may then need to change the rights
on that machine.
Follow these steps to discover a machine:
1. In the Management Console’s network view, select a machine.
2. Right-click the machine, and choose
Discover
. This provides details of
the machine’s anti-virus domain and operating system.
È
IMPORTANT:
If you remove a machine from the anti-virus domain and
only select
Remove from domain model
, you can restore that machine
to the anti-virus domain via the
Discover
command. To use this option
for large numbers of machines, right-click the NT domain name in the
network view, and choose
Discover
. If you accidentally deleted an
anti-virus domain or your Management Console configuration files, you
can use this to rebuild your workstation without having to reinstall all
your member machines.
