Using Mirror and Linked Repositories
This table identifies scenarios of successful and failed updates for Windows 95
and Windows 98 machines that do not log on to a Windows NT domain:
• "User logged on" refers to whether the Windows 95 or Windows 98
machine is powered on, but waiting at the prompt for the local user to enter
a user ID and password.
• "Guest account enabled" refers to whether the Guest account has been
enabled on the Windows NT server hosting the repository.
• "Credentials entered in Management Console" refers to whether the user
domain, user ID, and password for the mirror repository have been entered
in the Management Console’s Configure Mirror dialog box.
• “Successful update” refers to whether the update was successful (“Yes”) or
the update failed (“No”).
1. This scenario works when the local account matches an account on the
server holding the repository and when the password entered in the
Management Console’s Configure Mirror dialog box is valid for that
account.
2. This scenario works when the username and password used to log on to
the Windows 95 or Windows 98 machine matches an account on the server
holding the repository.
Configuring access for machines that log on to a Windows NT
domain
Here are some things to keep in mind:
• If the Windows 95 or Windows 98 machine uses a mirror that is on a server
in the same Windows NT domain, no problems should occur.
