4. Check the condition of the capscrews and
lubricate the capscrew heads (underside),
threads and washers with clean engine oil.
Do not install painted capscrews at locations that
are under the valve cover.
5. Insert the capscrews in the mounting holes.
Tighten all cylinder head capscrews finger-
tight. (There are two cylinder head capscrew
lengths: 198.0 mm and 225.0 mm.)
6. Check the alignment of the cylinder heads
by placing a straightedge against the
exhaust manifold mounting surfaces
(Figure 276). Using a feeler gauge, measure
any gaps between the straightedge and
manifold mounting surfaces. The heads
should be in alignment within 0.005 inch
(0.127 mm). If not, reposition the heads to
achieve the specified alignment.
