Names and functions of components
Scanner unit assembly
•
Scanner drive motor assembly
A DC motor that drives the scanner assembly.
•
Sensor
A sensor that detects the base position of the scan bar.
•
CIS scan bar
This is an imaging sensor that is composed of a number of sensors.
ADF unit assembly
•
Paper load sensor arm
A sensor that detects the presence or absence of a document on the ADF document tray.
•
Paper path sensor arm
The paper path sensor arm detects paper in the paper path in case of jams. It dictates the CIS scan
bar when to start scanning.
•
ADF feed motor assembly
The feed motor assembly is a DC motor that rotates the pick roller and feed roller in the reverse
direction and rotates the ADF transport roll assembly in the forward direction.
•
Idler
The idler will press the paper against the rollers to make sure that the paper moves when the roller
rotates.
•
Exit roller
As the trailing edge of the paper leaves the feed roller, the exit roller controls the movement of the
paper until it can successfully exit.
•
Feed roller
The feed roller controls the movement of the paper before it reaches the exit roller.
•
Separation pad
The separation roller gets in contact with the separation pad, forming the separation nip that prevents
multiple feeds in case there are multiple picks.
•
Separator roller
The separation roller gets in contact with the separation pad, forming the separation nip that prevents
multiple feeds in case there are multiple picks
•
Pick roller
The pick roller picks the paper from the ADF input tray.
•
Paper stopper
The paper stopper prevents over-insertion of the paper.
•
Friction pad
The friction pad prevents multiple picks and wearing of the pick rollers.
