4 Check if the carrier DC motor and carrier assembly
initialize during POST.
Does the carrier DC motor initialize?
Go to step 5. Go to step 12.
5 Check if the J8 cable is connected properly to the
system board. Reseat the cable. Check for cable
and connector damages.
Are the J8 cable and connector free from any
damage?
Go to step 6. Go to step 11.
6 Check if the J18 cable is properly connected to the
system board. Reseat the cable. Check for cable
and connector damages.
Are the J18 cable and connector free from any
damage?
Go to step 7. Do any of the
following:
• If the cables are
damaged, then
replace the J18
cable.
• If the connectors
are damaged, then
go to step 11.
7 Check if the J1 cable is properly connected to the
system board. Reseat the cable. Check the
connector on carrier card for any damage.
Is the J1 cable free from any damage?
Go to step 8. Replace the J1 cable.
8 Check the encoder strip for contamination. Clean it
with a piece of cloth.
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 9. Problem resolved
9 Replace the carrier card. See “Printhead carrier
card removal” on page 4-67 .
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 10. Problem resolved
10 Replace the carrier card cables.
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 11. Problem resolved
11 Replace the system board. See “System board
removal” on page 4-32 .
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 12. Problem resolved
12 Replace the print engine assembly. See “Print
engine assembly removal” on page 4-84 .
Does the problem remain?
Replace the
printer. Problem resolved
