Vertical banding and other unwanted data (during simplex scan)
Before starting, check the media route for foreign objects, such as staples, clips, and scraps, in the media path.
7 Insert a letter-size white clean paper in the ADF
input tray. Bring the printer up in Manufacturing
mode. From the home screen,
touch
> Manufacturing Test > Calibrate
ADF Scanner . Touch to proceed.
Run a test print. From the home screen, touch
> Print Reports > Demonstration Page .
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 8. Problem resolved
8 Replace the ADF assembly. See “ADF assembly
removal” on page 4-47 .

Go to step 9. Problem resolved
9 Replace the midframe cover. See “Midframe
cover removal” on page 4-50 .
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 10. Problem resolved
10 Replace the system board. See “System board
removal” on page 4-32 .

1 Turn off the printer by unplugging the power cord.
Wait for 10 seconds, and turn on the printer. Run
the scan/copy job again.

2 Check for any stain, dirt, or obstruction in the scan
area on the ADF scan bar.

flatbed scan area.
Clean the glass with a piece of cloth
Run the scan/copy job again.

3 Isolate the problem. Run a test print on the printer.
From the home screen, touch
> Print
Reports > Demonstration Page .
Is there a problem on the print quality?
Check the
horizontal or
vertical prints
and other
unwanted print
marks during a
print job
service check.
