Check if the pick assembly can go down to its pick position
every time a tray is inserted.
Remove the tray, and manually trigger the pick assembly to
go down by pushing the lever.
Is the pick assembly able to go down to its pick
position when triggered?
Go to step 2.

Check if the paper out and paper low sensors are free from
any damage and contamination.
Are the sensors free from any damage and
contamination?
Go to step 3.
Go to step 4

Check the J3 cable on the system card if it is properly
connected and is free from any damage. Reseat the J3
cable.
Is the J3 cable free from damage?
Go to step 4.
Go to step 5.

Replace the print engine assembly. See
assembly removal” on page 4-84

Does the problem remain?
Go to step 5.

Check the leading edge of the paper for any
damage. Check for any obstruction in the paper
path.
Is the leading edge of the paper free from any
damage?
Go to step 2.
Clear the paper path
for any obstruction.

Remove the tray assembly, and check the following
conditions for the paper:
• If it is within the stack limit.
• If it is within the specifications.
• If it has any defects like curls and folds.
• If it is properly placed on the tray.
Is the paper within specifications and free from
any defects?
Go to step 3.
Do any of the
following:
• Refer to the paper
specifications. See
“Media input type
specifications”
on page 1-20
and
“Media input
sizes
specifications”
on page 1-20
.
• If defects are
found, then replace
the paper.
• If the paper is
beyond the stack
limit, then lessen
the paper in the
tray.
