Chapter 10
Setting Up Network Connections
Your Kyocera 7135 smartphone is capable of connecting wirelessly to network services for email,
Internet access, or synchronization. To make these connections, your service provider must offer
over-the-air digital data coverage in your area. Note that data coverage is not the same as voice
coverage, but both may be offered by the same wireless service provider.
Getting started with network connections
Access to the Internet varies depending on your service provider. Before you attempt to use any
web application, check with your wireless service provider to see if you have Internet access.
In most cases, if you have purchased data coverage, all of the network settings have already been
entered for you by your service provider. If you need to modify any of these settings, follow the
procedures in this section.
Some Internet service providers (ISPs) do not allow email to be sent across their SMTP server from
outside their network. If this is the case with your ISP, the phone may return mail as
undeliverable. Contact your phone service provider for ways to correct this if this occurs.
About network applications
If you have data coverage, you can use the EudoraWeb application for wireless access to Internet
sites. This text-only browser makes moving between sites and scrolling through documents a
snap. Once the EudoraWeb application is set up, it takes only a few taps to visit an Internet site
anywhere in the world.
About network preferences
Network Preferences identify your Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or dial-in (remote access)
servers. You can establish any of the following types of connections:
■
PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol)
■
SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol)
■
CSLIP (Compressed Serial Line Internet Protocol)
The correct network preferences must be set up before you can use the Eudora or EudoraWeb
applications. In most cases, if you have purchased data coverage, all of these settings have already
been entered for you.
This chapter contains information for the advanced user; check with your phone service
provider and your Internet Service Provider before making any entries or adjustments in
these screens.
