5.9.1 Harmonic
Imaging
Tissue not only scatters back echoes with the nominal transmitted frequency but also with double,
threefold, fourfold and so on (harmonic) frequencies, as a result of a physical effect called
“non-linear propagation”.
Harmonic Imaging delivers better grayscale contrast compared to standard ultrasound imaging.
This technique has proved to be particularly useful for difficult-to-image patients and furthermore is
less prone to artifacts.
Switch on / off the “Harmonic Imaging” function in 2D mode.
Light illumination:
Harmonic is active.
(receiving frequency is double of the transmitted frequency)
Weak illumination:
Harmonic is useful with the selected probe, but not active
(the last adjusted transmitting frequency is active).
Not illuminated:
The use of Harmonic Imaging is impossible with the selected probe.
Use the
[
Harm. Frequ.
]
flip control to adjust the range of the frequency.
Three settings are possible: high, mid, low.
Remarks:
*
Changes are only possible in write mode.
*
The Harmonic frequency setting is displayed in 2
nd
line of the B mode Image Info area.
5.10 Optimized Tissue Imaging (OTI)
The function OTI
TM
allows the examiner to “fine tune”
the system for scanning different types of tissue.
Use the
[
OTI
]
flip switch to adjust the respective parameter.
Four positions are possible: adipose, solid, cystic or normal tissue.
Remarks:
*
Changes are only possible in write mode.
*
Setting the relevant parameter improves image quality.
