12.4 Acquiring Targets
12.4.1 Manual acquisition
The GP/GD-280 permits manual acquisition of 10 targets in the range of 2-16 nm, while the
GP/GD-380 and GP/GD-680 permit manual acquisition of 20 targets within the range of 0.2-32
nm. The targets are automatically tracked and numbered. When the automatic acquisition
feature is active, the number of targets manually acquirable are five (GP/GD-280) or ten
(GP/GD-380, GP/GD-680).
Before starting the ARP, check that heading and speed readouts at the top of the screen are
correct. To manually acquire a target, do the following:
1. Place the cursor on a target of interest by operating the trackball.
2. Press the [ACQ] key.
The plot symbol changes its shape according to the status as below, with plot number to the right
of the plot symbol. A vector appears in about 20 antenna scans after acquisition, indicating the
target's motion trend. If the target is consistently detected for three minutes, the plot symbol
changes to a solid mark. If acquisition fails, the target symbol blinks and disappears shortly.

Note:
When the ARP has acquired all targets possible, the buzzer sounds, and no more
acquisition is possible unless targets are lost. Should this happen, cancel tracking of individual
targets or all targets by the procedure described on page 12-8.
