SERVICE OPERATIONS
H O O D ASSEMBLY
H O O D H ING E SPRING REPLACEMENT
NOTE:
F o r Hinge Spring R eplacem ent, a tool
can be made to dim ensions shown in F igu re 25
fo r this purpose.
1. R a ise and sa fely support the hood in full open
position.
2. A s shown in F igu re 3, engage hooked end o f tool to
spring, then ca refu lly pull fo rw a rd to engage o r d is
engage spring fro m hinge assem bly.
H O O D H IN G E (Fig. 4 )
Removal
1. P ro p the hood in the extrem e open position and place
p ro tective co verin g o v e r the cow l and fenders.
2. Scribe position of hinge attachment on hood re a r
rein fo rcem en t and rem o ve two bolts.
3. R em ove hood hinge sprin g as explained in precedin g
w rite-u p .
4. Scribe position o f hinge attachment on fender a ssem
bly and rem o ve bolts.
5. R em ove hinge.
Installation
1. In stall hinge assem b ly to fender and align within
s c rib e m arks. In stall bolts.
2. In stall hood hinge spring.
3. In stall bolts and align hood. See Hood A lignm ent in
this section.
H O O D LOCK ASSEMBLY
A b olt-type hood lock is used as shown in F igu re 5 and
6. The lock bolt, located on the hood dovetails with the

mounted s tr ik e r plate, preventing upward o r downward
m ovem ent of the hood while the veh icle is in motion.
In tegra l with the s tr ik e r plate is the combination lock r e
lea se le v e r and safety catch.
Replacem ent
1. Open hood and rem ove the four bolts holding the
combination lock catch and lock bolt.
NOTE:
If o rig in a l hood lock assem bly is to be
replaced, sc rib e a line around lock fo r alignm ent
on installation.
2. P la c e hood lock assem bly in position.
3. Adjust as outlined under Adjustments.
Adjustm ent
1. Open hood and adjust tightness of lock bolt support so
that they a re just “ snug” enough to hold lock bolt in
position.
2. C lose hood in a n orm al manner.
3. R aise hood again; lock bolt assem bly w ill have
shifted to operating position. Tighten bolts fully.
Further adjustment may be made at lock bolt sup
port, if n ecessa ry.
NOTE:
T h is Hood L ock Catch A ssem b ly to
radiator support and g r ille support fasten er is
an im portant attaching part in that it could a f
fect the p erform an ce o f vita l components and
system s, and/or could resu lt in m ajor re p a ir
expense. It must be replaced with one o f the
same p art number o r with an equivalent p art if
replacem en t b ecom es n ecessary. Do not use a
replacem en t p art o f le s s e r quality o r substitute
design. Torqu e values must be used as sp ecified
during rea ssem b ly to assu re prop er retention o f
this part.

Adjust lock bolt to obtain a secure hood closu re and
reasonable lock re le a s e e ffo rt.
