NOTE: The w ord " L E F T " on ball joint a ssem ­
bly goes down.
10. Install b ell crank (17) on ball joint assem bly (13)
attaching with nut (16) and lock washer (15).
11. Install expansion plug (1) in shift ra il opening in
co v e r (5).
C la rk —Remote Control Assem bly
Disassembly
NOTE: K ey numbers in text r e fe r to F igu re 6D.
1. R em ove lo ck w ire and lock screw (25), then rem ove
sh ifter shaft (11) and s e le c to r fin g er (23) from r e ­
m ote control housing (13).
2. R em ove attaching p arts holding sh ifter shaft co lla r
(10) to sh ifter shaft (11), then rem ove sh ifter shaft
c o lla r.
3. Loosen locknut (19) and rem ove s e le c to r le v e r (20).
4. R em ove snap ring (15) and w asher (14) from s electo r
arm and shaft assem bly (22).
5. R em ove retaining screw (28) and lock w asher (27)
from control housing (13).
6. Rotate s e le c to r sle e v e and ball assem bly (24) away
fro m s e le c to r arm and shaft assem bly (22), then r e ­
m ove s e le c to r s leeve and ball assem bly (24) from
control housing (13).
7. Rem ove s e le c to r arm and shaft assem bly (22) and
spacer (21) fro m control housing (13).
8. R em ove attaching p arts that retain shift le v e r a s ­
sem bly (4) to shift le v e r mounting bracket (29),
then rem ove shift le v e r assem bly.
9. R em ove attaching p arts which retain shift le v e r
mounting bracket (29) to control housing (13), then
rem ove shift le v e r mounting bracket.
Cleaning and Inspection
1. Clean a ll m etal parts thoroughly in cleaning solvent.
W ipe o r blow parts dry.
2. Check a ll parts fo r w ear, distortion, cracks or
other damage.
3. R eplace all parts that would a ffe c t p rop er selection
o f tran sm ission gea rs.
4. In addition, inspect the b reath er assem bly (20, fig.
5D) to see that it is open and not damaged. Replace
if n ecessary.
O il Seal Replacement
1. P r e s s or d riv e o il seal out o f rem ote control co ver.
2. W ith a suitable s le e v e , p re s s o r d riv e new o il seal
into b ore o f co v e r.
NOTE: Coat outer d iam eter o f o il seal with
a light coat o f s e a l i n g cem ent p r io r to
installation.
Assembly
NOTE: K ey numbers in text r e fe r to Figu re 5D„
1. P osition s e le c to r s leeve and ball assem bly (24) in
control housing (13), then install lock washer (27)
and retaining screw (28). Tighten screw firm ly .
2. P osition s e le c to r arm and shaft assem bly (22) and
bushing (21) in control housing (13), then install
w asher (14) and snap ring (15).
3. P osition s e le c to r fin g er (23) in control housing (13);
then install sh ifter shaft in housing, aligning splines

of sh ifter shaft with splines o f s e le c to r sleeve and
ball assem bly (24), and hole in sh ifter shaft (5) with
hole in s e le c to r fin ger (23).
4. Install s e le c to r fin ger lock screw (25). Tighten
screw to 25 ft. lbs. torque.
5. Install new lock w ire through lock screw (25), to
retain the position between sele c to r fin ger (23) and
sh ifter shaft (11).
6. Install attaching parts that hold sh ifter shaft c o lla r
(10) to sh ifter shaft (11).
7. Install attaching p arts that hold shift le v e r assem bly
(4) to shift le v e r mounting bracket (29). Tighten nut
(6) to 25-31 ft. lbs. torque.
8. Install attaching p a rts that hold shift le v e r mounting
bracket (29) to control co v e r (13). Be sure shift
le v e r assem bly (4) is p ro p e rly seated in the slot
of sh ifter shaft c o lla r (10).
9. P osition s e le c to r le v e r (20) on s e le c to r arm and
shaft assem bly (22), so that the s e le c to r le v e r is
perpendicular to the gasket side o f the control c o ver
(13). Tighten retaining nut (19) firm ly .
Spicer— Remote Control Assem bly
Disassembly
NOTE: K ey numbers in text r e fe r to F igu re 6D.
1. Loosen clamp bolt on shift le v e r (16), then rem ove
shift le v e r and thrust washer (14).
2. Rem ove selection le v e r (11) fro m selection cam and
stud assem bly (6).
3. Through opening in bottom o f control housing (3),
rem ove lo ck w ire and shift fin ger screw (21) from
shift fin ger (4).
4. Rem ove attaching parts that hold end co v e r (19) to
control housing (3).
5. Rem ove shift fin g e r shaft (15) and end co v e r (19)
from control housing (3). R em ove shift fin ger (4)
from control housing.
6. Rem ove selection le v e r shaft (20) 180 d egrees, then
rem ove selection le v e r shaft from shift fin g er shaft
(15).
