Installation
P r o p e lle r shafts m ay be in stalled by r e v e rs in g the p r o
cedure used in re m o v a l when the follow in g notes are
ob served .
NOTE 1:
B efo re in stallin g a r e a r p ro p e lle r
shaft and sle e v e assem bly, slid e seal reta in er,
steel washer and cork sea l on spline o f mating
shaft. A ssem b le these parts to sle e v e by turn
ing reta in er onto s le e v e a fte r r e a r p ro p e lle r
shaft is in stalled.
NOTE 2:
O ver torquing
clamp nuts w ill
resu lt in bearin g cap distortion which w ill r e
duce r o lle r b earin g life .
NOTE 3:
This p r o p e lle r shaft to pinion flange
fa sten er is an im portant attaching part in that it
could a ffect the p erfo rm a n ce o f v ita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m a jor
re p a ir expense. It must be replaced with one of
the sam e p art number o r with an equivalent part

i f replacem ent becom es n ecessa ry. Do not use a
replacem ent part o f le s s e r quality o r substitute
design. Torque values must be used as sp ecified
during rea ssem b ly to assure p ro p e r retention of
this part.
CONSTANT VELOCITY UNIVERSAL JO IN T
Disassembly
1. R em ove front p r o p e lle r shaft fro m veh icle.
2. R em ove re a r trunnion snap rings fro m cen ter yoke.
Rem ove grea se fittin g.
3. P la c e prop shaft in v ic e as shown in F igu re 96.
D rive one re a r trunnion bearing cap fro m center
yoke as shown in F igu re 96 until it protrudes
approxim ately 3/8".
NOTE:
Keep r e a r portion o f p r o p e lle r shaft up
to avoid in te rfe re n c e o f re a r yoke half with
cen ter yoke.
4. Once the bearin g cup protru des 3/8", re le a s e vic e .
Grasp protruding portion o f cup in v ic e and d rive on
cen ter yoke as shown in F igu re 97 until cup is r e
m oved. Rem ove cup sea l by p ryin g o ff with a thin
s c re w d riv e r.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 fo r rem aining bearin g cup.
6. Once the center yoke cups have been rem oved, r e
m ove re a r yoke half b earin g cups. Rem ove re a r
trunnion.
7. Gently pull re a r yoke half fro m prop shaft. Rem ove
a ll loose needle bearin gs. R em ove spring seal.
8. Rem ove fron t trunnion fro m cen ter and front yoke in
sam e manner as d escrib ed in Steps 2, 3 & 4.
NOTE:
B efo re fron t trunnion can be rem oved
a ll four (4) bearin g caps must be rem oved.
Assembly
1. Clean and inspect a ll needle b earin gs, cups, seals,
fittin gs, trunnions and yokes. A ssem b le a ll needle
bearings in caps (27 p e r cap); assem ble needle
bearin gs in fron t yoke (28 total). Retain bearings
with a heavy g rea se. A ssem b le sea ls to bearing
cups.
