2. Loosen spanner nut, then unscrew nonpressure hous­
ing fro m brake sp ider. Th is lea ves wedge, r o lle r
and spring assem bly exposed.
3. R em ove wedge, r o lle r and spring assem bly fro m
actuation housing by pulling straigh t out.
4. R em ove brake shoes. R e fe r to procedure coverin g
this operation.
5. R em ove plunger guides and washers.
6. P r y plunger seal fro m sp id er housing.
7. R em ove anchor plunger.
8. R em ove autom atic adjuster components as d escrib ed
in applicable p roced u res.

Disassembly (Figs. 89 and 9 0 )
1. Rem ove cotter pin and wedge return spring washer
fro m wedge assem bly.
2. Rem ove wedge seal.
3. Slide wedge spring o ff wedge.
4. Rem ove wedge reta in er w asher and r o lle r s fro m
r o lle r retaining cage.
Cleaning and Inspection
A ll components should be thoroughly cleaned p r io r to
inspection and reassem b ly.
1. Inspect wedge fo r bent o r distorted condition. Ex­
amine b earin g su rfaces fo r sco rin g or w ear. R e­
place wedge if th ere is evidence of w e a r or
distortion.
2. Exam ine r o lle r s fo r any w ear o r out-of-round con­
dition. No scratches o r sco rin g is p erm is s ib le .
3. Examine wedge spring fo r fatigue o r co rrosion . R e ­
place spring i f necessary.
