2. R em ove o il dip stick and tube.
3. On v e h ic le s so equipped rem ove exhaust c ro s s o v e r
pipe.
4. On v eh icles equipped with automatic tran sm ission
rem ove co n verter housing under pan.
5. R em ove sta rte r b race and inboard bolt, swing sta rter
aside.
6. On CE 10-20-30.
a. R em ove engine fron t mount bolts (fra m e b racket-
to-m ount).
bo Using a suitable jack with a flat piece o f wood
(to prevent damaging o il pan), ra is e engine enough
to in sert 2 " x 4 " w o o d b lo c k s between the engine
mounts and fram e brackets.
7. R em ove o il pan and d isca rd gaskets and seals.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean a ll gasket and seal su rfaces on oil
pan, cylin der block, crankcase front co v e r and re a r
m ain bearing cap.
2. Install new o il pan side gaskets on cylin der block
using gasket s e a le r as a reta in er. Install new o il
pan r e a r seal in r e a r main bearin g cap gro o ve, with
ends butting side gaskets. Install new o il pan front
seal in g ro o ve in crankcase front c o v e r with ends
butting side gaskets (fig . 5V).
3. In stall o il pan and torque bolts to sp ecification s.
4. In stall sta rte r b race and attaching b olts. Torqu e
b olts to specification s.
5. On CE 10-20-30.
a. L o w e r engine and install front mount throu
bolts.
b. Torqu e bolts to sp ecification s.
6. Install con verter housing under pan (if rem oved
7. Install exhaust c ro s s o v e r pipe (if rem oved).
8. Install o il dip stick tube and dip stick.
9. F ill with o il, start engine and check fo r leaks
O il Pump
Removal
1. R em ove o il pan as outlined.
2. R em ove pump to r e a r main bearing cap bolt and r e ­
m ove pump and extension shaft.
Installation
1. A ssem b le pump and extension shaft to re a r main
b earin g cap, aligning slot on top end o f extension
shaft with d riv e tang on low er end o f distribu tor
d riv e shaft.
2. Install pump to re a r bearing cap bolt and torque to
sp ecification s.
NOTE: Installed position o f o il pump screen is
with bottom edge p a ra lle l to o il pan ra ils.
3. Install o il pan as outlined.
O il Seal (Rear M a in )
Replacem ent
The r e a r main b earin g o il seal can be replaced (both
halves) without rem ovin g the crankshaft.
NOTE: A lw ays rep lace the upper and lo w e r
seal as a unit. Install with the lip facing toward
the front o f the engine.
1. W ith the o il pan and o il pump rem oved, rem ove the
r e a r main b earin g cap0
2. R em ove o il seal fro m the annular tang by prying
from the bottom with a sm all screw d riv e r (fig. 6V).
3. Lu bricate the lip o f a new seal with engine o il. Keep
o il o ff the parting line surface as this is treated with
glue. In sert seal in cap and r o ll it into place with
fin g e r and thumb, using light p ressu re so seal tangs
