4. R ein sta ll the hinge access hole plugs into the top.
LIFTGATE HINGE
Removal
1. R em ove the liftga te and hinge assem bly as p reviou sly
outlined.
2. R em ove the hinge s c re w access c o v e r fro m the
liftga te.
3. R em ove the hinge.
Installation
1. R e v e r s e “ R em o va l’ ’ p roced u res, torquing the hinge
s c re w s to 25 in. lbs. and the access co v e r screw s
to 15 in. lbs.
2. R ein sta ll the access hole plugs into the top.
LOCK A N D HANDLE
Rem oval and Installation
1. Open the liftga te.
2. R em ove the con trol a ssem b ly access hole co v e r as
shown in F igu re 77.
3. R em ove the co tter pin retaining the handle to the
control assem bly.
4. R em ove the s c rew s retaining the handle to the lift
gate and rem o ve the handle and gaskets.
5. R e v e rs e Steps 1-4 to in sta ll the lock and handle
assem bly.
LIFTGATE LATCH CONTROL ASSEMBLY
Rem oval and Installation
1. R em ove the liftga te lock and handle assem bly.
2. Rem ove the screw s which retain the control assem
bly to the liftga te.
3. R em ove the con trol assem bly by disconnecting the
latch rod clips and latch rods fro m the con trol
assem bly.

RIG H T-H A N D LATCH A N D /O R ROD
Rem oval and Installation
1. Rem ove the control assem bly access hole c o ver.
2. Disconnect the latch rod fro m the control assem bly.
3. R em ove the screw s which retain the latch to the
liftga te and pull the latch and latch rod out as an
assem bly.
4. R e v e rs e Steps 1-3 to in stall the right-hand rod and
latch.
LEFT-HAND LATCH A N D /O R ROD
Removal and Installation
1. R em ove the con trol assem bly access hole c o ver.
2. Rem ove the handle assem bly.
3. Rem ove the s c rew s which retain the control a ssem
b ly to the liftga te, allow ing the control assem bly to
drop down fo r e a s ie r access to the upper latch rod
retaining clip.
4. D isconnect the latch rod retaining clip.
5. Rem ove the s c re w s which retain the latch to the lift
gate and pull the latch out as an assem bly.
6. R e v e rs e Steps 1-3 to in stall the left-hand rod and
latch.
TAIL GATE
The ta il gate on the basic B la ze r is iden tical to that
used on the conventional F leetsid e pick-up truck m odels.
R e fe r to the Section on Conventional M odels.
When the v e h icle is equipped with the optional hard top,
the ta il gate is sealed in the body opening with w eather-
stripping.
The sides of the ta il gate are sealed by a
w eath erstrip on the inside of the body opening. The bot
tom of the ta il gate is sea led by a w eath erstrip which is
glued a cross the bottom of the ta il gate its e lf as shown
in Figu re 78.
