W heel Hub Com ponents—Assembly
a. A ssem b le outer wheel bearin g cup into wheel hub
with J-6368 and d r iv e r J-8092.
b. A ssem b le inner wheel b earin g cup into wheel hub
with J-23448 and d r iv e r J-8092. F u lly pack hub
cavity between cups with wheel bearin g g rea se.
c. Pack w heel b earin g cone with g re a s e . Insert
cone into cup.
d. In stall new o il seal.
15. In stall hub and outer wheel bearin g cone to spindle.
Torque inner adjusting nut with sp ecia l T o o l J-6893
with torque adapter J-23446 to 50 ft. lbs. to seat
bearin gs. Back o ff inner adjusting nut and retighten
to 30-40 ft. lbs. w hile hub is being rotated.
16. Back o ff inner lock nut 90° (1/4 turn). A ssem b le
lockw asher by turning nut to n earest hole o f the
lockw asher. Tighten outer lock nut to 50 ft. lbs.
minimum.
NOTE:
T h is outer locknut to spindle fastener
is an im portant attaching part in that it could
a ffe c t the p erform a n ce of v ita l components and
system s, and/or could resu lt in m ajor rep a ir
expense. It must be replaced with one o f the
sam e p art number o r with an equivalent p a rt if
replacem ent becom es n ecessa ry. Do not use a
replacem ent p art o f le s s e r quality o r substitute
design. Torque values must be used as sp ecified
during rea ssem b ly to assure p ro p er retention of
this part.
NOTE:
F inal b earin g adjusting should be from
.001" to .010" end play.

(4 -w h eel d riv e units with a fr e e w heeling hub assem bly)
fo r balance o f assem bly p roced u re.
17. A ssem b le p ressu re plate and p ressu re spring. L a rg e
end o f c o il spring is to be towards p ressu re plate.
18. A ssem b le d riv e g e a r and snap ring.
19. To obtain clearan ce to assem ble the snap rin g in the
gro o ve o f the shaft, pull on b o lt until the shaft is a ll
the way out. A ssem b le snap ring and at the same
tim e push in on d rive gear.
20. A ssem b le hub cap.
NOTE:

lation fo r i n s t a l l i n g axle into v e h ic le . Set
T o e-In . Adjustm ents can be made by loosening
the clam ps on the rod. A fte r p rop er adjustment
is made, retighten tie rod clam ps to 35 ft. lbs.
