1. R em ove steerin g wheel as outlined in this section.
2. R em ove d irection al signal cancelling cam.
3. 40-60 S eries T ru ck s - R em ove bearin g snap ring.
4. P r y out upper b earin g.
Installation
1. R eplace a ll component parts in r e v e r s e o rd e r of r e
m oval making sure that d irection al signal switch is
in neutral position b e fo re installin g s teerin g wheel.
NOTE:
The steerin g wheel to s teerin g shaft
fa sten er is an im portant attaching part in that it
could a ffect the p erfo rm a n ce of vita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m a jo r r e
p a ir expense. It must be rep laced with one of the
sam e part number o r with an equivalent part if
replacem ent becom es n ecessary. Do not use a
replacem en t part of le s s e r quality o r substitute
design.
Torque values must be used as sp ecified
during rea ssem b ly to assure p rop er retention of
this part.
STEERING COUPLING
Flexible Type (Fig. 8)
NOTE:
B efo re rem ovin g the steerin g coupling,
eith er the steerin g g e a r must be lo w ered from
its p ro p er position o r the steerin g column must
be loosened and pulled upward fa r enough to p e r
m it coupling rem oval.

NOTE:
T h is is a sp ecial bolt and w ill req u ire
a 12 pt. socket o r box wrench.
2. Tap with a soft m a llet to rem ove coupling from
w orm shaft. The coupling is splined to the steerin g
worm shaft.
3. 10-30 S eries Tru cks - R em ove the coupling to s te e r
ing shaft flange bolts and rem ove the coupling.
40-60 S eries Tru cks - R em ove the coupling to s te e r
ing shaft flange bolts, nuts, lockw ashers and r e
tain ers.
R em ove the flange locking pin nuts, lock
w ashers, rein forcem en ts and pins.
R em ove the
ground w ire and separate the fle x ib le w a fer and split
clamp (fig. 9).
Installation
1. 10-30 S eries Tru cks - Install the coupling to the
steerin g shaft flan ge and torque the coupling nuts to
18 ft. lbs.
